I live in New York, USA. We visited your great city during the Capital of Culture year for Sir Paul McCartney’s concert at Anfield Stadium. We fell in love with your city and people. They were so warm and charming. I would nominate Sir Paul as one of Liverpool Greats!

  2. Tony Philbin says:

    BILLY FURY

    What a shameful omission!!!

    • Janice says:

I agree with you Tony and so thousands of others.
I also would have liked to have seen Frankie Vaughan on here as he was another one of Liverpool’s greats who grew up in the then Dingle as it was known.

    • Janice says:

I agree with you Tony and so do thousands of others.
I also would have liked to have seen Frankie Vaughan on here as he was another one of Liverpool’s greats who grew up in the then Dingle as it was known.

  3. ian beedham says:

why no billy fury before the beatles he had more hits in the sixties than the beatles

  4. Hericus says:

Totally agree about the snub to Billy Fury. A true Liverpool lad who became a national star and treasure, but who stayed far truer to his roots than many of those who have been commemorated. Even more to the point, Billy’s family remain members of the Liverpool community.

  5. Pierre says:

How could you have done this without BILLY FURY?!!

  6. jim burke says:

billy fury should have been at the top of the list and then a gap………..

  7. Rob Dee says:

No disrespect to the other great Scoucers on the list but where is BILLY FURY as someone already said he should be on the top of the list :-( GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  8. Rob Dee says:

No disrespect to the other Great Scoucers on the list but where is BILLY FURY, as someone already said he should be on top of the list, To find he did’nt even make the list is a crime. Who’s responsible for this travesty.
    Keep Rocking Like Fury…..

  9. why is Billy Fury not on this list he was also one of the greatest sons of Liverpool.still loved and remembered by all his fans. A Legend , Gentleman, & true Friend Regards Veronica West.

  10. Whoever is responsible for drawing up this list should be ashamed of themselves.Billy Fury was without any doubt The best to come from Liverpool.

  11. admin says:

Yes Billy Fury was great but the limit was 22 portraits and Liverpudlians are great in so many fields not just music.
Anyone other than Billy Fury fans got any other suggestions?

  12. cathy says:

I agree BILLY FURY should of been at the TOP for what he gave this Country in the field of music(another Billy fan, I’m happy to say)

  13. Hericus says:

    Yes, Billy Fury’s brother. :-)

    • Katie says:

I absolutely agree with what others have said about Billy Fury,a great asset to Liverpool and surely one of the best – a great singer/songwriter, amazingly goodlooking and a kind and gentle person.

  14. B Hughes says:

I couldn’t agree more to other posts. Where is Billy Fury.

  15. Janice says:

Billy Fury the legend admin. Also Frankie Vaughan did a lot for the Boys Clubs. What about Michael Holliday? Some of the names on the list I have never heard of despite being an old granny – but wonder how one younger female person who shall remain nameless but was a member of a girl group now disbanded – actually got voted on. Perhaps it is because the people who voted are younger?

  16. Linda C says:

I don’t apologize for being another Billy Fury fan. He was a very shy, kind and gentle man who transformed on stage into an amazing singer, a great rocker. He should not be missing from your list.
I look forward to reading the comments you have invited from people about others from Liverpool.

  17. David W says:

If you don’t want to remember such an iconic singer as Billy Fury in your fair city – we will gladly remember him down here in Birmingham!!

    • Janice says:

Thank you David – I think I will gladly remember him down here in South Devon…. I personally do think it’s disgraceful that he is missing from this list. I am not saying that some of them on the list aren’t worth remembering – but to forget Billy Fury for goodness sakes – who came long before the Beatles… well words fail me. And of course good old Frankie Vaughan who grew up in the Dingle – and made great music along with all his charitable events for the Boys Clubs.

  18. Julie says:

You say whoever is responsible for this list should be ashamed for the omission of Billy Fury. Well, the list was drawn up from suggestions that Liverpool people sent in – did any of you actually propose Billy, a worthy subject in my opinion?

  19. Steve Morris says:

Mel C and no Billy Fury. One, a great singer, performer, legend and beautiful person, the other Mel C. An absolute travesty and makes a mockery of the whole exercise. Scandalous….
